DHF-funded Emily Hutt took the Under-23 women’s Silver Medal at the 2024 UCI BMX Racing World Championships in Rock Hill, South Carolina, taking GB’s top result.
“Under-23 rider Emily Hutt delivered an equally impressive performance in the heats, winning by 0.606 seconds – the largest margin of victory across all the under-23 heats. Throughout day two, Hutt progressed steadily through the quarter and semi-finals, winning both of her heats before heading into the final. The 19-year-old delivered a cool and collected race, being pipped to the finish line by just 0.220 seconds, to take a sensational world championships silver medal for the second year in a row.” – extract from the British Cycling website.
She then followed that result up more recently with an extremely close 2nd-place finish at the 2024 UEC BMX Racing European Continental Championships – report here.
Emily will be travelling to the Paris Olympic Games with the GB team, albeit as the reserve female based on current standings – but these recent amazing results could see that position change as she could still achieve enough points to qualify to race at the Olympics in her own right. Whatever the outcome, we’re sure Paris will be a fantastic experience for her.
Matt and Lucy have raced in 2 national competitions so far this season. Matt achieved 2nd and 3rd place in the Men’s under 23 category, while Lucy achieved a 5th and 6th place in the Women’s 17+ category. A good start for Lucy, bearing in mind this is her first season at Elite level and is racing against older girls.
