Here is the latest update from DHF-supported para-swimmer, Maddie Harris:
After such a long period away from swim training and competitions (due to Covid-19 national restrictions), when the 2021-2022 season began in September, I was fortunate to be invited to continue on the Swim England Para-Swimming Talent Programme in the development squad. I am also proud to announce I have been made the junior club captain at Elmbridge Phoenix Swim Club (EPSC).
Unfortunately, I had to miss my first competition of the new season in November due to having Covid. Since then, I have competed at the British para-swimming Winter Nationals in Swansea 11-12 December. It was great to be back in the water racing. My times were solid, but my fitness levels aren’t quite where I want to be yet.
With my strength and endurance improving each week, I am now preparing for the next two major competitions in February 2022. The first will be in Dubai, where I will be representing Swim England at International Level, as I am participating in the Diploma of Sporting Excellence’s (DISE) offshore camp from the 6-14th February.
Then I am off to Aberdeen to compete at the British Para-Swimming International, National Meet from the 17th-20th . My focus at both these meets will be the 50m, 100m, and 400m freestyle events.
Thank you DHF, without you, my coaches wouldn’t be able to attend the Aberdeen swim meets and support me. My family and I greatly appreciate all your support.
