I had an amazing time in Poole this weekend competing in the Volvo Gill Optimist late Summer championships. I finished 3rd overall and 1st Junior (under 13 years old). It was a really enjoyable event and it’s my best result yet in one of the main national events. All the training and events I’ve done over the last year are really starting to pay off and I couldn’t have done this without the support of the Dylan Howells foundation.
There was not much wind, which made the sailing very tricky, tactical and incredibly close. In the 6 race series I scored 1, (12), 1, 5, 2, 5 out of 180 sailors aged up to 15. The event was the 2nd of 3 qualifiers in the national ranking series, from which the national training squad is picked for this year. after this result I am hopeful that I will gain a place on the National Squads.
