Emily

Despite suffering 3 concussions this year, Emily finished the season ranked 2nd in the overall UCI standings for the under 23 category and a silver medal in the World Championships held in Glasgow back in August. She is hoping to secure enough points to enable her to race at the Olympics next year but based on current standings the GB team only have one female place guaranteed at the games and that will go to Beth Shriever (current Olympic Champion and world #1) in the Womens Elite category. Emily has now relocated to Manchester, living in digs with other members of the GB cycling squad and in close proximity to the national cycling centre for training.

Matt

Matt has continued to race nationally and regionally as much as possible as he now works full time and is focusing on coaching at his club the Runnymede Rockets. He picked up 2 wins in the southern regional series but the highlight for him this season was racing in the World Cup series at Papendal in Holland where he reached the semi final. He would not have been able to compete in that event without the funding provided by the Dylan Howells foundation.

Lucy

Lucy is now ranked #1 in the Female under 16 category, winning both the National Series and British Championships. She’s really starting to fulfil her potential and will make the step up to the Elite category next season in national and regional competitions. According to Mark, she has the riding ability to match and even exceed Emily’s achievements but needs to develop her mental strength and ability to manage the pressure of racing at a higher level.

The family remain incredibly grateful for the support provided by the DHF and the financial help the funding gives them to compete in the sport they love.
