Maddie Harris – new update March 2020

By March 18, 2020 No Comments

Maddie Harris, our DHF-supported para-swimmer, has just given us an update on her recent activities:

Firstly thank you DHF for continuing to support me and Elmbridge Phoenix Swim Club (EPSC).

Your support has once again enabled one of my coaches – Veronica, to attend the National Para-Swimming Junior Championships in Sunderland last weekend (14-15 March 2020).

It made all the difference having Veronica there. For example, in December 2019, I went to the National Para-swimming Winter Championships without any additional support. I was hard to motivate and push myself, especially as I competed in 5 races on day one and then only 1 race on day 2. Where as last weekend, Veronica was able to support me throughout the two day competition. For example; she guided me during the warm ups (and warm downs), analysed my race technique and give valuable feedback on how to improve on for next time.

I competed in the usual six events: 50m, 100m & 400m freestyle, 100m breaststroke and backstroke and the 200m Individual Medley (IM). I achieved 3 personal best (PB’s) times in the 50m, 100m and 400m freestyle races. I also came 3rd (bronze medals) in two events – the 50m and 400m freestyle, in the Multiclass 17-18yr old age group. It was truly inspirational having the coach’s support – Thank you.

My next competition is the British Para-Swimming International Mett in Sheffield 9-12 April 2020. Fingers crossed it goes ahead.

Once again, EPSC and I are truly appreciative of all of DHF support.

I’ll write again soon,
Mads xx

Great efforts, Maddie – keep up the hard work! From all at DHF and its supporters.
